1、Compose your essay with a clear purpose 带着明确的意图写文章
一篇议论文旨在让读者接受你对于这个话题的看法。以下都是些很好的话题例子：

Why Citizen Kane is the best movie of the 20th century.

2、Write your essay as though you are conducting a debate 写文章的时候假设你正在参加一场辩论赛
辩论赛里你需要向听众介绍你的主题，摆出论据并且进行总结性说明。议论文和辩论文章的结构是相似的。
3、Collect facts from good sources to justify your opinions 收集一些来源好的事实证明你的观点。

英语议论文的写作思路
首先议论文的总体思路就是提出论点，解释论点。一般议论文用总分总的结构非常清晰明了。因此所有议论文要做的第一件事就是提出论点。怎样提出呢？有几种方法：第一可以先举例引出文章主题。例如论述消极和积极的态度时，可以用一个这样的例子引出，有些人总是抱怨工作太累，报酬不多，顺着这个思路就可以提出观点，这种抱怨不但不能改变现状，反而会让自己的情绪变得更坏，与其用消极的态度看待生活，不如换一个角度积极地看待问题。
用例子引出话题时，可以用这样的句型：
There are some people who …
对例子进行评述可以是积极的评价可以使消极的评价，可以用一个让步状语从句先阐述一下相反的情况有哪些原因，然后提出文章的观点，可以用这样的句型：
Though sth may be … it is still …
例如：Though not every job meets your expectation, it is still not a good idea to just complain and do nothing to change the situation.
提出了论点以后就是对论点进行说明了。说明一个论点是通常提出几个分论点，对总论点进行支撑。提出观点有一些固定说法可以用：
As far as I am concerned / In my opinion
就上面的例子来看，As far as I am concerned, negative attitude can do no good to anyone.
要说积极的态度比消极的态度好，那么可以提出两个分论点：一积极的态度可以让自己心态更好，凡事都能够看到好的一面，消极的态度会让自己陷入死胡同；二积极的态度可以影响周围的人，有时可以把不利的情况转变成有利的局面，消极的态度也会感染他人，并让别人对自己产生不好的印象。
议论文经常是对两种观点或两种现象进行比较，交给大家一个比较两种观点的句型：
Though there are many factors to account for situation A, to choose B is so much better.
在提出论点时，还要有对论点的支撑，可以提出例子，可以指出相反的观点的谬误，还可以进行推理解释，推出论点。
提出论点、证明论点都结束了以后，最好再对论点进行总结，归纳全文的观点。
